Recommended Lifestyle Changes

It is well known that a variety of 'triggers' can cause a Rosacea flare-up. Instigating a number of lifestyle changes to avoid these triggers can greatly reduce the number and severity of Rosacea flare-ups.

You'll find below a list of commonly recommended lifestyle changes. It is important to find your personal triggers and adjust your lifestyle accordingly to prevent aggravating the condition.
  • Probably the most important change you can make is to avoid exposure to the sun. If you must be exposed to the sun, use a non-irritating sunscreen whenever possible.
  • Extremes of heat or cold is a common for many sufferers. Hot showers, baths and even warm rooms can cause problems. Exposure to cold winds is also a trigger for many people.
  • Food and drinks can induce Rosacea symptoms and these should be avoided when necessary. Common problem foods and drinks include spicy foods and dairy products. Hot drinks can also trigger a Rosacea reaction and some sufferers should also avoid alcohol.
  • Tobacco products are stimulants and are not recommended. Smoking also damages blood vessels which may worsen symptoms.
  • Take care of your skin and choose skin products carefully. Only very mild products without perfumes, colors, alcohol and other additives should be used on your face.
  • Avoid stressful situations as this can trigger a Rosacea flare-up.
  • Moderate, rather than hard exercise may be preferable.
